OASBO believes that School Business Officials who aspire to achieve the highest levels of competency should be recognized for their demonstrated knowledge.

Mission

OASBO will offer a professional development program that will test competencies and knowledge in school business operations and financial management. Successful passage of the required examinations will lead to certification for Ohio’s School Business Officials. The COSBO program adds value to school management, increases accountability in public education, and gives recognition to OASBO members who aspire to achieve this high level of competency.

Why was the COSBO Program Created?

Today, continuous challenges confront Ohio school business officials. School funding is in a state of flux. It is the belief of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials that each person who makes the commitment to enter the COSBO Certification Program has set a course that will raise the level of professionalism of school business officials in the state of Ohio. This course of study will prepare a Certified School Business Official to lead internally and externally on a better course of action to maximize education dollars from federal, state and local sources to improve education for Ohio’s students. Their colleagues, other professionals in the field of education, and local communities will respect a Certified School Business Official for their high level of competency in demonstrated areas.

It is understood that the COSBO Certification Program is intended to be rigorous in nature exhibited by the passage-rate of 90% established for each exam.

In addition, OASBO believes that one of its missions is to provide member benefit services, such as the COSBO program, to increase the value of OASBO membership.

How do OASBO Members Become COSBO Candidates?

Complete a COSBO registration form to become a candidate

Attend COSBO

Take the COSBO Examinations

Repeat Steps 2 & 3 until all courses are complete

What is the COSBO Program?

COSBO is a certification program designed to provide all Ohio school business officials with focused training in all areas of school business management disciplines.

The COSBO Certification Program will:

  • Provide competencies, a course of study that will help school business officials succeed and excel in their career
  • Document through examination a high level of knowledge and technical skills in school business management
  • Enhance the professionalism of the school business official and assure school districts that the school business official has a superior base of knowledge concerning Ohio public school business management
  • Allow a school business official an avenue to be proactive in his or her professional career development
  • Provide the technical knowledge needed to maximize school financial, material, and human resources
